AGM

The following members were elected into office:

Committee Members : Bhen Darminder Kaur / Bhen Paramjit Kaur
Public Officer : Master Darshan Singh

The Treasurer’s position was taken over by Bhen Darminder Kaur from Vir Charanjit Singh effective from 3 February 2007. Vir Charanjit Singh remained in the executive committee as a committee member.

Samelan 2007 This camp was organized at Rutherford Park Country Retreat, Kangaroo Hills, Blampeid. A total of around 85 participants and 35 sewadars attended this camp. Also in attendance were Harcharanjit Singh ‘Raja’, Daaljit Singh ‘Double A’ and Dya Singh. The theme of the camp was “Jithey Har Araadhiye, Tithey Har Mitt Sahaayi”. Programme for the camp included ‘Asa Di Vaar’ in the morning followed by Japji Sahib and simren. We ‘Nishaan Sahib Selami’, Inspirational Kirten, which was much sought for, Group Dynamics, Aerobics and Classroom Sessions. Sukhdev Singh Success conducted a special weekend session titled ‘Sikhi : A Love Affair With Myself’ which was along the lines of “My Heritage, My Identity, My Lifestyle.
EGM

This meeting was convened to specifically discuss dates and objectives of future camps. With this, it is hoped that there would be more efficient use of financial resources and overcome clash of dates of other camps and activities. A request was made by main contributor of funds to ensure maximization of use of funds by all.

The current dates clashes with Gurpurb of the Tenth Master and the Sydney camp, therefore, it was unanimously decided and accepted that the new dates of hosting the next camp would be from 26th of December to the 30 December. These dates will be fixed for the next 3 years and felt that the dates will not pose a problem in getting a suitable campsite.

As the dates coincides with the Shaheedi of the Shote Sahibzade the name of the camp will be Camp Fatehgarh Sahib. It is also hoped with the dates fixed, early preparation in organizing the camp would be more efficient.

Australia Day SNM together with other Sikh organisations participated in a parade during the Australia day celebration.
Samelan Reunion A satsang was organized as a follow-up to the 2007 samelan. A total of 80 participants and parents participated in this programme. Dya Singh led the congregation in kirtan with an emphasis on naam japna and remembering the names of the Gurus by knowing the ardaas. Light tea was served prior to the diwan programme.
Amritwela Programme organized on every 1st Saturday of the month at Gurdwara Sahib Blackburn. ‘Nitnem Banis’ (Japji Sahib, Jap Sahib, Tavprasad Swaiyee, Chaupai and Anand Sahib) were recited from 6 to 7 am. The Granthi Sahib led the congregation in the prayers. This was to introduce to all the importance of uttering prayers and remembering Waheguru in the early hours
Nikeh Khalsa This programme was organized to run concurrently with the monthly Ladies Satsang, i.e. the first Saturday of the month mainly for ages 12 and below. This programme will be conducted from 3 to 5 pm and will help many mothers who bring their children during the Ladies Satsang. The activities will be in the darbar sahib and outside which will include simple sing along, games and creative activities.
Paathmala This programme was organised in conjunction with Vesakhi, reciting of Mool Mantar and Gurmantar done at 8.00 pm by all with their families. To kick start this programme an ‘arambakh ardaas’ was performed at the Gurdwara Sahib on 11 March 2007 and a ‘semapthi di ardaas’ on 14 April 2007. This was to inculcate a good habit of family praying together.
EGM Discussed and approve new constitution of Sikh Naujawan Melbourne, which provided a clear guideline on how SNM is to operate. This constitution has been lodged with the Justice Department which is waiting for a Trust Deed from us. The trust deed is being discussed and prepared by a solicitor as required by the Justice Dept.
One day camp A one day samelan was organized in the Gurdwara premises under the theme of “From Lehna to Angad”. The samelan started at 10.00 am with a arambak ardaas performed by one of the participant and this was followed by Nishan Sahib Selami. The programme then continued with kirtan and katha, kirten was in the form of Gurmantar, Moolmantar. Participants were reminded of the Gurus names and a katha along the lines of who Guru Angad Dev Ji was. After langgar children were told sakhis of Guru Ji and were taught how to make ‘gulab jamnu’. A treasure hunt which was scheduled had to be called off due to a funeral and in place some creative games were organized. The samelan was adjouned at 4.00pm.
Vesakhi T-Party A children’s t-party was organized from 3 pm to 5 pm. The party started off with a short slide presentation on the sacrifices made by the Guru and Sikhs. The children were told all the sacrifices were made for us to be proud to be Sikhs. A short quiz was held and presents were given for the right answers right away. An entertainer was invited to play games with the children. The event finished off with a t-party for the children.
Vesakhi Programme A time slot was given to SNM’s jatha to do kirten during the gurdwara programme
SNM Executive meetings A total of 8 meetings were convened.
Leadership camp Sydney A total of 13 members participated in this camp organized by the Sikh Simran Society of Sydney. Fees for this camp were waived by the organizing committee. However, a sum $450 was contributed by well wishers from Melbourne towards the camp.
New members 4 new members, namely Harnaak Singh, Manpreet Kaur, Simita Kaur and Swaran Singh were accepted.
